A Blessed Day in Kitchenistan

A new day has dawned! The forces of darkness have been banished from Kitchenistan!

For the first time in five months, the oppressive gloom has lifted and there is light in that cursed land. As you can see from the photo, Jose got the south lighting cove up and running today (though he was here until 10:30 p.m. working on it!). And, as you can see, it is going to be a bright room. The fluorescents run the length of the room on this side, bouncing light off of the ceiling. There will be another broken line of lighting cove on the north wall, and on the light shelf. I had been worried that there would not be enough light in the room, but with less than half installed, clearly this was not a valid worry. Thank goodness we spent money on good ballasts and a quality dimmer!

You can also see blue insulation peeking out from the other wall. That is the denim batting. Post consumer waste---meaning that we do not have somebody's smelly old jeans wadded up in there. Instead it is waste from the production process (trimmings etc.). That stuff is in a few of the sections of kitchen wall over the soy foam, as well as in the wall for the downstairs bathroom. I was going to put the David Bowie song as a download to celebrate the insulation...but I am going to bed instead.

Sweet dreams for me as things are moving along nicely (plenty more movement today and more tomorrow, notice the window framing above the light cove? And the door frame leaning against the wall?).
