The Face of Scope Creep...

Prep and plumbing were the orders of the week.

Lots of finish material ordering and discussions with our design guru Anthony about the look of the room.

And lots more plumbing work. The house was overrun by a gang of plumbers Friday and Saturday with five guys bouncing between the basement, addition, and second floor putting in new drains, water lines, and getting other stuff up to code. (That is the vaunted land of Kitchenistan viewed from the east, note the support wall for the bar...and the lack of a wall separating the kitchen from bathroom...)

Second floor? you ask... Good catch intrepid reader.

Yeah, as noted last week, there has been some scope creep. Our guest bathroom runs on the same plumbing column as the downstairs bathroom and kitchen. All along, I have had some concerns about the venting and quality of work along that column...so when the walls were opened, it was no surprise that action was required. The ancient grease trap is gone. Venting is fixed. New PVC lines replace drains that were antiquated or incorrectly placed.

In the end, my parents and brother will be pleased by the added work as the guest bathroom was admittedly a dicey game. Low pressure. Inconsistent temperature. A drain that was held open with electrical tape. Not ideal---but all issues that should be fixed even if they mess with the budget slightly. So, that is the face of scope creep on the left. A look into the guest bathroom from the landing. Hopefully, nobody will ask to crash at our house before we get the sink and toilet back in, eh?

Now we need to find a new hot water heater this week (another ongoing issue that the far-ranging nature of this project will happily address) before the plumbing fixtures can go in... Soon? Hopefully. The project has gone from an interesting learning experience to something a bit more tedious. Thankfully, we still enjoy working with the folks who have been involved (and if you listen to other people who have had similar projects in their house, we've taken a long time to get to this point mentally).
