Two days worth of masonry work has taken its toll. Our house is a disgusting mud bog.
The smoke alarms have been choked with aerosolized brick. My nose is caked black with mortar dust. And despite the great wall protecting our homeland from the grime of Kitchenistan, everything has a thick coat of mung and muck. Even poor Gambel---nothing sadder than a dust cat. She is trying to keep herself clean, I can only imagine how chalky her tongue must be...
But the sun is peaking through the choking cloud of masonry dust. The brickwork is done. Gone is the back wall of our first floor. Completely and utterly. In it's place, the second great wall of Kitchenistan---a matching monolith of OSB; only this one protects us from the great unknown outside our property line (and allows us to run the heat, which is key given the fact it is supposed to be in the low 40s next week!). The masons also opened holes in the north wall that will eventually be what we term as the tall window and the wide window. Note the tour to see what I am referring to...
Tomorrow, the concrete guys are back to pour the basement addition floor, the walkway, stairs, and replace the walkway from Mr. Price's house that was an unfortunate victim of the contractor's overzealous demo work (they also broke a neighbor's fence yesterday). After that, the United Nations gathering that has had my back yard buzzing with rapid-fire Spanish and Polish cursing will be quiet as we usher in a new cast of characters next week!

Grrrr. The multimedia tour of the project is so freakin' sweet. I don't know what the problem is... The architect is not posting it anymore, so I uploaded the file to Google video. Google shows it as there, but I cannot view it. Ugh. I'll find somewhere else to post it.
OK, now the video is up. Check it out---some changes in design since then, but you get the idea. Watch all the way through for the cool 3D blow through and listen to William's explanatory narration.
