Progress in a reformed Kitchenistan

It's downright Rooseveldt-ian in Kitchenistan.

The WPA is having its way.

Something new to see daily...

Today, it is the newly installed and stained ipe floor. Not done yet, still some sanding, filling, buffing and finishing. But you get the idea. I loved the way the wood looked with a natural finish. Just beautiful with a gorgeous grain pattern and variegated color (black, brown, red, green tones). But it would compete with the cabinets, so we have darkened it up (looks lighter in the photo due to the flash). Plus, the decking is darker so this will come closer to matching them up. But even with the stain, the color variations come through. Hopefully this will enhance the room, not create dissonance.

I love the wide planks. Gives a rustic country feel that will be a bit at odds with the more simple modern lines of the rest of the space. Again, I hope it will compliment the look, soften it. But...maybe more dissonance. Who knows.

For now, I am pretty geeked about it!
