Showing some skin on walls of steel

Been focused on other stuff this week---but things continue to take shape in the newly united land of Kitchenistan. The light shelf is getting built out. There is now sheathing on the addition and patio. Its really starting to look like something.

The steel bench braces have been fabricated, refabricated and re-refabricated. One of the features to the architect's vision of "bringing the outside in" is a bench that runs all the way along the north wall inside and out. Same material on both sides of the glass wall, giving the illusion of continuity from the kitchen to the patio. It will be stone, and will be kinda heavy. So, steel bracing had to be fabricated. Jeremy and the architect went back and forth---in the end, Jeremy basically sketched out the design that was built to support the stone, under-bench lighting, and any baby elephants I might bring back from the zoo (since then, we seem to have done away with the under-bench lighting and I will not have access to elephants for much longer---more on that next week, needless to say we have probably overbuilt these)... Anyway, Jeremy found a great steel welding shop, though there seems to be a slight language barrier as the braces have come back twice incorrectly welded (and the wrong number). But those problems have past as there has been a lot of steel put in place in recent weeks. The bench braces are up. So is some unbudgeted structural steel around the sun shade and underneath the second wall in the patio and kitchen. Stiff walls...

Gotta roll to watch my beloved Missouri Tigers in their improbable quest for the national championship... Tomorrow I will be very excited or depressed when I publish photos...

Until then:

M-I-Z!
