Intimate Space

So, even though I have not written a ton around the Thanksgiving holiday, that does not mean that things have been at a standstill... On the contrary, things are really shaping up...literally.

Jeremy worked a 14 hour day right before Thanksgiving putting the framing for the patio walls up, finishing the addition walls, and getting the steel structure in place for the sun shelf. It was the first time I really had a sense of what the dimensions were really going to be. The kitchen is going to feel noticeably larger, while the elevated patio will be an intimate space---made more so by the height off the ground and the solid walls around it (as opposed to the slat construction of a typical porch or deck. The photos posted here are actually sort of crappy---I'll post something better tomorrow.

The first shows a view looking slightly northwest from the alley. The plywood on the back is really just a visual reference---there is not a framed knee wall there, as the garage will create the physical barrier at the east end. Note the silver steel bracing for the sun shelf at about 7'6". The second is a shot along the north wall midway in the existing kitchen to the east---you can see the new "wide window" (the tall window is covered), the addition (though the opening is largely obscured) all the way out to the patio.
